Creative Endeavors: Gingerbread Houses

Gingerbread houses decorated with love by Abbie, Joseph, Jackson, Ayden, Brennan and Macy.

Each year, my mom invites all of the grandchildren (there are 10!) over to make Christmas goodies. After several failed attempts with gingerbread, she started using graham crackers, and voila! They are super cute and easy too. To make these houses you’ll need graham crackers, an assortment of candies and royal icing. Here is Cookie’s royal icing recipe: Beat together 1lb powdered sugar, 1/2 tsp cream of tarter and 3 egg whites (room temperature) on low speed until well blended, then beat on high speed until icing is fluffy and light. I brought over some paint brushes and a cookie decorating kit that I got from Williams Sonoma that is helpful for icing the houses.
