The theme this week is on pain. Why would we want to talk about that, you say? Well, pain is something that we all experience. It is simply a part of life. And while my ulitmate goal is avoid focusing on the things that I don’t want to attract into my life, the fact is, sometimes we need to talk about these things.
The thing about pain is this: It starts in our minds. If we are focused on particular painful thoughts, then eventually, pain will manifest in our bodies. Experiences start with a thought. The thought is then followed by an emotion, and the emotion is followed by an urge to act. Sometimes we act on the urge, and sometimes we don’t. Either way, once one thought, emotion, behavior cycle ends, another one begins. This is the human experience. Moment by moment, day in and day out.
When we are unaware of our thoughts, then it is difficult to have control over the thoughts, and therefore, the pain. So a regular mindfulness practice is helpful, because it teaches us to be aware of our thoughts. Once we become aware of the thougths that contribute to our pain, then we are able to change them so that we can manage them more effectively.
Here is a great book that provides information on changing your thoughts so that you can heal emotional and physical pain in your body. The book, by Louise Hay is You Can Heal Your Life. This book will give you practical ways to heal, including a section on common thoughts that contribute to certain illnesses along with affirmations that can be said to replace the old thoughts.
Be sure to check back tomorrow for an educational and informative post regarding pain management!
