The human race has one truly effective weapon, and that is laughter. Mark Twain.
Is Twain suggesting we use laughter to fight war, end world hunger, or gain world peace? Probably not, but maybe he is revealing a daily weapon against the worries and burdens of our day-to-day lives. Imagine if we all spend a little more time laughing, how those problems might begin to shift.
On this Mindful Monday, consider using laughter to oppose anything coming against you: screaming kids, looming bills, a nagging spouse, the thought of once again cleaning your messy house. None of these things can win out against a deep heartfelt laugh. Sometimes in the face of adversity I will throw out a big hearty fake laugh, and inevitably hundreds of mini giggles come out of me. In those moments of letting go I feel as if I do hold a strong weapon within me.
Today’s Mindfulness Practice: Spend some time laughing today. Laugh at yourself, or the ridiculousness of a situation you may find yourself in. Let go and laugh fully.
